My Week – Entry into my practice

Time For ActionMost of my week was taken up in the selection process for M’s replacement. I will be seeing one of the candidates tomorrow for a second interview.

I shortlisted three candidates and did an assessment to provide an overall picture for each of the candidates. Here it is:

I want to try and make sure it is the right person. As you know, the person will be the most expensive and most valuable asset of the practice.

Selecting on an interview only is just not enough.

As part of the selection process, I also gave the shortlisted candidates, a written test. This was designed to test the application of their tax knowledge and their written communication skills.

Emotionally, it has been a real roller coaster week in trying to make an assessment of the three shortlisted candidates who would be the best fit. I will make my decision by tomorrow.

Even after I have made up my mind, there is no guarantee that the person will accept the offer. Last week, I did make an offer to a candidate who decided not to accept my offer and stay in his present job.

So far 2016 has been tough from the start. The normally easy months for accountants have been anything but breathing space months. I want this tough time to end!

The expansion is continuing though at a slower pace now. When I get a new client sign on, I do not get excited anymore. I worry about how will I cope with the increasing workload.

I hope the person whom I make an offer to accepts. I am fed up of the stress, worry and the hassle of finding the right fit employee.

Short post today, since I am not in the right frame of mind.
