My Day – 16 March to 19 March

 Thursday 26 March

I am getting used to early nights and getting up earlier. It is better for me.

Client I met on Tuesday signed up today. Interesting that he had been with his previous accountant for 13 years. It gives me a clear message to always keep an eye on client satisfaction. You are never too big to lose clients.

A bit of light relief moment was us installing our wall art in our office. It is consistent with our brand. See pic below. My staff think it’s too much. I love it. I don’t think the picture does any justice as to how good it looks.

It was an early morning trip to Evans Cycles today. I am totally kitted out with all my bicycle accessories. This includes high viz clothing, decent lighting and wheel lock nuts. This way my wheels will not get stolen anymore. I need to make sure I do not lose the key to loosening the nuts. If I do, it will not be possible to remove the wheels.

Wednesday 25 March

I could not sleep till about 1am or so. I was up at 5:30am this morning. So I was not operating efficiently. In This includes bike high viz clothing, decent lightening and secure wheel locks. time, my body will get used to having early nights. A good habit will develop.

A potential client I met yesterday is negotiating hard on fees. I wish I was clear from the very start that we did not negotiate on fees. They are what they are. He has emailed me how he wants the fees to be structured, I will reflect on it and I will decide tomorrow.

On reflection, my thread today in Xero discussion group today was not the right approach. I think a better approach would have been to email Gary Turner directly. It is done now. Best to move on and learn from this. This is to think through first.

There was also a misunderstanding by our account manager who thinks clients on Xero is all we have. We are not that small. We have clients who use VT and spreadsheets that do not want to move Xero. New clients we are taking on are moved to Xero.

I would like to get back to weekly weight monitoring. The Wednesday day blog will cover this aspect. After weeks, I got on the scales this morning. I at my heaviest I have ever been. At least through weekly monitoring gain will stop or will not be that high.

Here it is:

This week’s result:                                   N/A

Total Weight loss to date:                       N/A

This week’s Weight:                                 14 stones

Weight to lose                                            56 lbs

There is also the embarrassment factor of reporting gains week after week. This, I hope, will stop any further gain at least.

Tuesday 24 March

It was a better day than yesterday. I managed to sleep earlier yesterday. I was up at 4:45am this morning. I had set my alarm for 5:30am. I am sure, you are interested to know all this!

I also did some resistance training this morning. This is after months and months of missing out. I have a long way to go to look anywhere near decent. It is a start. The book I mentioned yesterday has really motivated me. I hope it lasts.

I intend to combine resistance training and yoga. So far nil response to my yoga app recommendations. I will look for one this evening.

I got to the office early. Well, 8.15am. Should be 8am. Loved my cycle ride. Nothing like an early morning bike ride in this weather.

Workwise, I was thinking why no new client calls this week. Luckily we had one this afternoon. He is very likely to sign up. In terms of quality of the client, I would rank him  6.5. 10 being the best quality client. My ranking is based on my first meeting with him.

As to why he wants to leave his current accountant: 1) Calls not returned and 2) deadlines being missed and 3) 60% increase in fees. There are always two sides to a story. I am aware I only know one side. But hey, I am very likely to gain a client.

I emailed our Xero account manager. In my blunt and possibly the worst way, I expressed my concern about her not being proactive with us. I also asked what was her role as our account manager.

We are adding more and more clients on Xero without any help/support from Xero. I expect some marketing/ support how to get more clients to add on Xero. I do not think I will get a response.

Xero clearly has a huge marketing budget. It is missing out at grassroots levels. We are very much a grassroots partner with Xero. We are aspiring to become a Gold partner. Xero needs to play its part. Will it?

Monday 23 March

Over the weekend, I finished listening most of the audio book (15 mins left) mentioned by Flash. The book is Better than before: mastering the habits of our everyday lives by Gretchen Rubin.

It is one of the better self-help books I have listened to for a very long time. It is a practical book that will be a great help. I have already started making some changes.

I want to get to the office a lot earlier now. I mean between 8am to 8.30am instead of 9am to 9:30 am. The book motivated me to get up early today. I was up at 5:45am. It was difficult. I know I will get used to it. I managed to get to the office earlier today.

I was yawning most of the day. I will be having an early night this evening. I know I will be a lot better tomorrow.

Another interesting mention (they are many) in the book was about the treadmill desk. I remember seeing this in The West Wing. I must admit I laughed at it at the time. There is something in it. I am not buying it since the space is an issue. I may do one day!

The marketing consultant I met a few weeks ago called asking for my decision. I gave an honest feedback as to why I was not going ahead. Bottom line, I lost confidence in her.

I found Better Cloud (FlashPanel) for Google contact sharing. I am working on this. At this stage, not sure if this right for us.
